Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman receives the Minnesota County Attorney's Association "Award of Excellence"

Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman received the Minnesota County Attorney's Association "Award of Excellence" at the MCAA 2009 Annual Meeting held in Bloomington, Minnesota.  This award honors an individual who has engaged in activities that show a  high level of dedication, professionalism and commitment to public service, made significant contributions that aid governmental operations and who has demonstrated extraordinary leadership and initiative.

Mike was lauded for his willingness to share his abilities and his resources with his fellow county attorneys and for leadership on several initiatives including a huge effort to address suggested changes in drug sentencing laws by calling together county attorneys and law enforcement partners to work through complicated and politically charged issues.  He organized the MCAA's statewide response to the United States Senate recount which helped smaller counties who did not have the time or expertise to apply.  His award noted that ". . . though he could simply do his own thing as a leader of the largest County Attorney's Office in the State, he's chosen instead to do the right thing and be a meaningful participant in the statewide mission of this organization, to improve the quality of justice in ALL of Minnesota."
